You can buy an eSIM with crypto on Genghis and install it straight from a QR code. Pick a data plan for one of 50 destinations, or one Europe plan that covers 33 countries and territories, then pay in Bitcoin, USDT, Monero or any of 300+ tokens. There is no ID check to buy, and the QR code arrives by email once your payment confirms.
Until September 2026 the only eSIMs we sold were credit codes for a provider app. You loaded the credit into Airalo, aloSIM or eSimChoice, then bought the data plan there. Those codes are still in the catalog, but most travellers no longer need the extra step. The country plans deliver the eSIM itself.
This guide covers both. It lists what each destination costs, which network it runs on and which country websites will see you in. Then it walks through the crypto payment, the token choice, installation, refunds and what to do when a line does not connect.

The short version
Country plans for 50 destinations plus a Europe plan for 33 countries and territories, from 1 GB for 7 days to 20 GB for 30 days. The cheapest plan read on 24 September 2026 was 1 GB in Germany for $2.77. Pay in any of 300+ tokens with no ID check. Install at home on Wi-Fi, switch the line on when you land. A data eSIM you have not installed is refundable within 30 days.
Two kinds of eSIM you can buy with crypto
The eSIM catalog now holds two different products. They look alike on a phone screen once installed, but the purchase works differently. Knowing which one you need saves a support email later.
Country and regional data plans
A country plan is the eSIM itself. You choose the destination and the plan size, pay, and receive a QR code by email. Scan it, and the line is on your phone. There is no provider app, no second account and no balance to manage.
Every destination offers fixed data plans from 1 GB for 7 days to 20 GB for 30 days, and the USA eSIM adds a longer plan. The 30 days start at first connection, not at purchase. The plans are data only, with no phone number, so your own SIM keeps working for calls and texts.
Credit codes for a provider app
A credit code is a fixed balance for one eSIM provider. The Airalo code adds dollars to your Airmoney wallet; aloSIM and eSimChoice work the same way. You redeem the code in the provider app, then buy and install a plan there.
Credit makes sense in two cases. You already hold an account with that provider and want to top it up, or you need a destination the country plans do not cover. Otherwise the country plan is one step shorter.
What an eSIM is and how it works
An eSIM is a SIM card that lives in your phone as software. Instead of a plastic chip in a tray, a profile is downloaded to a chip already built into the phone. You install it by scanning a QR code or tapping an install link, and the phone treats it as a second line.
That second line is the useful part. Your home number stays active for calls and messages while the eSIM carries the data. You switch the data line in settings, and nothing else on the phone changes.
The phone has to support eSIM and must not be locked to one operator. The quick check is to dial *#06#: if the screen shows an EID, your phone supports eSIM. A locked phone refuses the profile even when the QR code is valid, so check before you pay.
Can you buy an eSIM with crypto and no KYC?
Yes. You do not verify your identity to buy on Genghis: no document upload, no selfie, no proof of address. You need an email address to receive the QR code, and that is all. The AML and purchase limits page sets out what we check and the per-order limits.
This is where a crypto eSIM differs from the usual routes. A local SIM bought at an airport kiosk asks for a passport in most countries. A roaming add-on is billed to the contract in your name. A card payment to an eSIM app ties the purchase to your bank.
The payment itself runs through a one-time address for your order, and Genghis never holds your crypto. The how it works page documents the full flow, from checkout to delivery.
Why buy an eSIM with crypto
No conversion to fiat first
The usual route runs wallet to exchange to bank to card, and every hop costs a fee and a wait. Paying for the eSIM in crypto collapses that into one transaction. Your tokens buy data without passing through a bank account.
It works when cards do not
Cards get declined abroad, banks flag foreign merchants, and some countries make card payments to overseas sellers hard. A crypto payment settles on chain and does not depend on where you are standing. For anyone living on crypto full time, that is the difference between having data on arrival and hunting for Wi-Fi.
300+ tokens accepted
You pay with what you already hold. Bitcoin, Ethereum, USDT, USDC, Solana, Monero and more than 300 others are accepted at checkout. The current list is on the supported cryptocurrencies page.
Delivery on confirmation
Fulfilment is automated. Once your payment confirms on the network, the QR code is sent by email. Fast chains confirm sooner than Bitcoin, which matters when you are already at the gate.
Price in your coin shown before you pay
The amount in your coin is shown before you pay. It includes our exchange-rate margin; a network cost applies only to USDT on Tron and to Monero. Your wallet may add its own fee. There is no card surcharge.
Privacy coins are supported natively
Monero, Zcash and Dash are accepted like any other token. Paired with a purchase that needs no identity document, this is one of the few ways to get mobile data without a payment trail. The Monero payment guide covers the mechanics.
How to buy an eSIM with crypto on Genghis, step by step
- Open the eSIM catalog. Go to the eSIM catalog and pick your destination, or the Europe plan if you will cross borders.
- Choose a plan. Each product page lists every plan with its price and price per GB, from 1 GB for 7 days to 20 GB for 30 days. Check the network and the IP location on the same page.
- Confirm your phone. Tick the box that says your phone supports eSIM and is not locked to one operator. If you are unsure, dial *#06# and look for an EID.
- Check out with your email. Enter the email address that should receive the QR code. No documents are required.
- Pay with your token. Choose from 300+ cryptocurrencies. The checkout shows the exact amount and a one-time address; send it on the network shown, because a wrong-network transfer cannot be recovered.
- Install the eSIM. The QR code arrives by email once the payment confirms. Open the email on your phone and tap Install, or scan the code from another screen.
What the eSIM plans cost
The table shows eight of the 51 products as they read on 24 September 2026. Prices are in US dollars and you pay the equivalent in crypto. Every other destination follows the same six plan sizes, and each product page lists its own prices.
| Destination | Network | 1 GB / 7 days | 10 GB / 30 days | 20 GB / 30 days |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Germany | O2, Vodafone | $2.77 | $13.33 | $22.85 |
| United Kingdom | O2, EE, 3 | $3.36 | $15.66 | $27.31 |
| Turkey | Vodafone | $3.36 | $11.10 | $19.03 |
| Japan | NTT docomo | $3.58 | $15.39 | $25.01 |
| United States | Verizon, AT&T | $3.71 | $19.00 | $33.58 |
| Europe, 33 countries and territories | Two or three networks per country | $3.77 | $17.26 | $30.40 |
| Thailand | AIS, DTAC, TrueMove H | $4.77 | $16.47 | $27.41 |
| Mexico | Telcel, AT&T | $6.09 | $36.01 | $61.07 |
The larger plans cost less per gigabyte everywhere. In Turkey the 20 GB plan works out at $0.95 per GB against $3.36 for the 1 GB plan. If you will use maps, messaging and a few video calls over two weeks, the 5 GB or 10 GB plan is usually the better buy.
The credit codes keep their own values. Airalo credit comes in 5, 10, 20 and 50 USD, aloSIM credit in 10, 25, 50 and 100 USD, and eSimChoice credit in eight values from 15 GBP.
Found your destination?

Credit codes and account currency
A credit code loads only into a provider account set to the same currency. A Turkish lira code will not load into a US dollar Airalo account, even though the code is valid. Check the country field in the provider app before you buy credit. This does not apply to the country plans, which need no provider account at all.
Which country websites will see you in
This is the detail most eSIM guides skip. Data on a travel eSIM often leaves the network through a gateway in another country. Websites and apps then see an IP address there, not where you are standing. Each product page on Genghis states it.
- Local IP. The Japan eSIM and the USA eSIM route data inside the country, so you look like a local SIM user.
- Western Europe gateway. The UK and Germany plans exit in France, the Netherlands or the United Kingdom.
- The Netherlands. The Turkey plan exits there, not in Turkey.
- Singapore. The Thailand and Mexico plans exit in Singapore.
- The United States. The Europe plan shows a US IP address.
Maps, messaging and browsing work the same either way. A few local banking or streaming apps may treat you as abroad. If a local app matters to you on this trip, read the IP line on the product page before you pick the plan.
How an eSIM paid in crypto compares
There are four realistic ways to get mobile data abroad. The table sets them side by side on what decides the outcome.
| What matters | eSIM plan paid in crypto | Provider credit paid in crypto | Carrier roaming add-on | Local SIM bought on arrival |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Identity check to buy | None | None | Already tied to your contract | Passport in most countries |
| Payment method | 300+ tokens, no card | 300+ tokens, no card | Card or monthly bill | Local cash or card |
| Steps to working data | Pay, scan, switch on | Pay, redeem, buy plan, scan | Opt in | Queue at a shop or kiosk |
| Cost predictability | Fixed plan price | Fixed balance | Daily rate, overage risk | Fixed once bought |
| Keeps your home number | Yes, as a second line | Yes, as a second line | Yes | Only on a dual-SIM phone |
| Works across several countries | With the Europe plan | With a regional plan in the app | Usually, at a higher rate | No, one country per SIM |
| Refund before use | Within 30 days if not installed | Replaced or refunded if the code fails | Depends on the carrier | Rarely |
Which cryptocurrency to use
Every token lands in the same checkout. The choice changes the network fee and how fast the QR code arrives, which matters more on a $3 plan than on a $30 one.
Bitcoin, the most widely held
BTC is the default for most buyers and works for any plan. Fees rise when the network is busy, so it suits the larger plans better. The Bitcoin payment guide covers confirmation times.
USDT and USDC, no volatility between click and confirm
Stablecoins keep the amount you send equal to the amount you agreed. On Tron or Solana the transfer fee stays low, which makes them a cheap route for a 1 GB plan. Start with the USDT payment guide or the USDC payment guide.
Solana, fast settlement
SOL confirms faster than Bitcoin for a fraction of a cent. If you are buying data at the gate, this is the one to use. See the Solana payment guide.
Ethereum, universal but watch the gas
ETH is accepted and reliable, though mainnet gas can be a real share of a small plan. Check the fee before you send, or move the same value in USDT on a cheaper chain. Our guide to buying gift cards with Ethereum goes into the detail.
Buying an eSIM with Monero for maximum privacy
Mobile data is one of the most identifying things you buy. A local SIM usually needs a passport, a roaming add-on is billed to your named contract, and a card payment ties the purchase to your bank. A country eSIM paid in Monero avoids all three.
XMR hides sender, receiver and amount at the protocol level, so the payment leaves no public record to read later. Combined with a purchase that asks for no identity document, the order carries no name. The broader case for privacy rails is in our no-KYC marketplace guide.
Be precise about what this covers. The purchase is private; the mobile network still sees a device on its masts, and the order holds the email address you gave. Privacy at the payment layer is not anonymity on the air.
How to install and activate your eSIM
- Install at home on Wi-Fi. Installing needs internet. Open the email on your phone and tap Install, or scan the QR code from another screen.
- Set the eSIM as your data line. Keep your own SIM for calls and texts, and select the eSIM for mobile data.
- Switch it on when you land. The plan clock starts at first connection, so leave the line off until you arrive.
- Turn on Data Roaming for the eSIM. Travel eSIMs connect as roaming lines, so the eSIM needs roaming on even though your home SIM does not.
- Toggle Airplane Mode if it stays offline. Turning Airplane Mode on and off makes the phone search the local networks again.
If you bought credit instead, redeem it first: open the provider app, add the code, then buy and install the plan from there. The last three steps above apply unchanged.
Refunds and a line that does not connect
A data eSIM that has not been installed is refunded in full within 30 days of purchase, in USDT, USDC or store credit. Write to [email protected] with your order number. Once installed, a plan cannot be refunded, so install only when you are ready to travel.
If the line does not connect, check that the eSIM is on and set for mobile data, and that Data Roaming is on for it. Still offline? Email [email protected] with your order number and phone model, and keep the eSIM on the phone. Deleting it removes the profile for good.
For credit codes the usual cause is a currency mismatch between the code and the provider account. A code that is genuinely faulty is replaced or refunded, as the refund policy sets out.
Where connectivity paid in crypto already works
Buying data with crypto is not a fringe case. Fifty of the 79 countries scored in the Crypto Livability Index sit in the top connectivity band, where airtime, data and eSIM plans can all be paid in crypto through several local operators (Genghis Research, 2026).
Japan is the useful counter-example. It scores 1 out of 4 on connectivity, because no local operator is reachable on a crypto top-up rail and a traveller eSIM is the only route (Genghis Research, 2026). The Japan country page has the full score. That is exactly the gap a country eSIM fills.
Is it safe to buy an eSIM with crypto on Genghis
Each eSIM is issued to your order and delivered once, by email, so nobody else has installed it. A credit code is single use in the same way. If either does not work, support replaces it or refunds it.
The payment side is standard on-chain settlement. You send to the one-time address shown for the network you picked, and delivery starts on confirmation. There is no card number to leak and no bank detail on file, because neither is ever collected.
The one irreversible mistake is a wrong-network transfer. Read the network label at checkout, send USDT on the chain shown, and keep the transaction hash until the QR code arrives.
Genghis Points on every eSIM purchase
Orders placed from a free account earn Genghis Points, and a Point is worth $0.01 at checkout. Creating the account adds 100 Points straight away, and the balance never expires. Points become spendable once the account has $25 in completed orders. The rules are on the rewards page.
Data is a recurring cost for anyone who travels, and the rest of the trip can be paid the same way. Accommodation and transport sit in the travel and transport catalog, and the travel gift card guide covers what else you can book with crypto.
Frequently asked questions
Can I buy an eSIM with Bitcoin?
Yes. Bitcoin is accepted on every eSIM on Genghis, country plans and credit codes alike. Pick the plan, choose BTC at checkout and send the amount shown. The QR code is emailed once the transaction confirms.
Is there any KYC to buy an eSIM on Genghis?
No. There is no identity verification, no document upload and no account required to buy. You give an email address so the QR code can be delivered, and nothing else.
How long does delivery take?
Delivery is automatic once your payment confirms on the network. Solana and Tron transfers confirm sooner than Bitcoin, which depends on network load and can take longer.
Can I pay for an eSIM with Monero?
Yes. Monero is accepted like any other token, alongside Zcash and Dash. XMR conceals sender, receiver and amount, so the payment leaves no readable on-chain trail.
Are there platform fees?
No separate fee is added. The amount in your coin is shown before you pay. It includes our exchange-rate margin; a network cost applies only to USDT on Tron and to Monero. Your wallet may add its own network fee.
What if my eSIM does not work?
Check that the eSIM line is on, set for mobile data and has Data Roaming on, then toggle Airplane Mode. Still offline? Email [email protected] with your order number and phone model, and keep the eSIM installed. A credit code that fails is replaced or refunded.
Can I get a refund on an eSIM?
Yes, for a data eSIM that has not been installed, within 30 days of purchase. The refund is in full, in USDT, USDC or store credit. Once installed, the plan cannot be refunded.
Will the eSIM work on my phone?
Your phone must support eSIM and must not be locked to one operator. Dial *#06#: if you see an EID, the phone supports eSIM. A locked phone will refuse the profile.
Does the eSIM come with a phone number?
No. The country plans are data only. Your own SIM keeps working for calls and texts, and WhatsApp and other apps work over the eSIM data.
Which countries can I get an eSIM for?
50 destinations across Europe, the Americas, Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Oceania, plus one Europe plan covering 33 countries and territories. The eSIM catalog lists them by region.
When do the 30 days start?
At first connection, not at purchase. Install the eSIM at home on Wi-Fi and switch it on when you land.
Should I buy a country plan or provider credit?
Buy a country plan if you want the eSIM itself with no extra account. Buy credit if you already use Airalo, aloSIM or eSimChoice and want to top up that account.
Can I buy an eSIM with USDT?
Yes, on Tron, Ethereum, Solana and the other supported networks. Send on the network shown at checkout, because a wrong-network transfer cannot be recovered.
The bottom line
You can buy an eSIM with crypto, with no ID check, and have the QR code before you pack. Pick a country plan for one of 50 destinations or the Europe plan, pay in Bitcoin, USDT, Solana or Monero, and install it at home on Wi-Fi.
Check two things first: that your phone supports eSIM and is unlocked, and which country the plan’s IP address sits in. Then switch the line on when you land.
