The question that started everything
In early 2025, Claudio held some crypto tokens and wanted to buy a PlayStation with them. He could not easily do it. Not because the money wasn't there. Because the rails weren't.
Spending it on an ordinary console meant moving funds from wallet to exchange to euros to bank to retailer: four intermediaries, each able to flag, freeze, delay, or report. His Italian bank had already questioned transfers to Binance and back. The asset was his; the permission structure said otherwise.
He did not want to lose a slice of it to custody chains, regulatory friction, and the implicit tax of being flagged as suspicious by systems that treat crypto money as suspect by default.
That is when Genghis was imagined: not as a gift card business, but as the fix for the moment crypto's promise of ownership collapses on contact with the real economy.

Why no KYC is a belief, not a feature
Most crypto platforms treat privacy as an afterthought: a compliance problem to solve, not a value to protect.

We started with gift cards because they are the universal adapter: they connect crypto wallets to every brand on earth without requiring those brands to integrate blockchain technology themselves. As the infrastructure matures, we will expand into direct merchant settlement, DeFi-linked purchasing power, and cross-chain commerce primitives.
